TENRON HPM (Tenron High-Performance Material or TENRON) is a disruptive material made out of an aggregation of widely available minerals extracted in Western Europe. TENRON as a raw material has an intensive black colour.

TENRON belongs to the category of “New Materials” alongside esteemed materials like Carbon or P-Aramid, which are all very lightweight while providing extreme performances compared to traditional materials like aluminium, metal or plastics.

TENRON is available in different formats: TENRON fibres and its downstream products (see below). TENRON fibre is the world’s highest performing mineral fibre and is aerospace accredited since July 2024.

The oven and extrusion process

In our specialized facility, the proprietary blend of minerals undergoes a meticulous transformation process. Initially, they are melted within a uniquely designed oven, reaching exceptionally high temperatures. The resulting magma is subsequently propelled through an in-house designed extrusion plate, featuring minuscule apertures, at a high velocity. This intricate procedure yields filaments tailored to specific requirements, measuring 9, 10 or 11 microns, based on the preferences of our discerning customers.

The sizing solutions innovation

Over the years, Isomatex has cultivated an array of proprietary customised sizing solutions through in-house development and innovation.

In the course of the extrusion process, a minute layer known as sizing (also called sometimes a binder) is meticulously applied to the filaments’ surfaces. This delicate layer serves the dual purpose of reinforcing the filaments and imbuing them with the essential properties required for subsequent stages in the creation of downstream products. The pivotal role of sizing solutions lies in shaping and defining the ultimate properties of the filaments.

Beyond functionality, the sizing gives a beautiful shiny silver-gold hue to TENRON’s fibres, substrates, converted products or composites, adding an aesthetic appeal.

Isomatex takes pride in utilizing water-based sizing solutions that adhere to the REACH standards. REACH, an acronym for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, stands as a European Union regulation designed to enhance the safeguarding of human health and the environment against potential risks associated with chemicals.

Isomatex’s products, all made with TENRON, are: TENRON fibres (roving), TENRON substrates, TENRON felts (veils, non-wovens), TENRON pre-impregnated (pre-preg) roving or substrates, TENRON composites and TENRON hybrids (TENRON combined with another high-end fibre like Carbon, P-Aramid or other fibres like Flax etc.). We offer TENRON thermoset composites and are also offering and developing new TENRON thermoplastic composites, key for the circular economy. TENRON “aerospace grade” is available upon request.
